Why Install a Heat Pump in Your Home?
Oil and gas burners will soon be a thing of the past, heat pumps may be the only option you will have to provide heat and hot water in your home!
There are two main types of heat pumps:
- Air source heat pumps
- Ground source heat pumps
Air source heat pumps are a popular option as they do not require much space and often are easier to install.
‘An air-to-water heat pump transfers heat from the outside air to water, which heats your radiators or underfloor heating. It can also heat water stored in a hot water cylinder for your hot taps, showers and baths. Heat from the air is absorbed into a fluid.’

The Clean Heat Grant, now referred to as Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK government-run scheme that will help to fund the transition from gas boilers to low carbon alternatives such as Heat Pumps. Homeowners will receive £5,000 towards the installing an air source heat pump,
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme will run for 3 years from April 2022, and the government has set aside a budget of £450 million under this scheme.
Where is a Heat Pump Placed?
You will need a place outside where a unit can be fitted, either on the ground or on a wall. It should have some space around it to allow good air flow.
There are two different types of air-to-water heat pumps, monobloc or a split system. A monobloc system will have all the components in a one outdoor unit, with pipes carrying water to the central heating system and a hot water cylinder inside your home. A split system separates the components between indoor and outdoor units. The correct system for you will depend on your budget, application and space available, we will ensure you get the correct system for you home.
